Scope of service
The ultramodern institute and lecture hall complex with a usable floor space of around 13,400 m² comprises an institute building consisting of a seminar and laboratory structure with a laboratory area of 4,122 m² and a lecture hall building with five lecture halls and 1,240 seats.
The reinforced concrete supporting structures of the two components of the institute building were each designed with a length extension of approx. 110 m without joints. A 2-story connecting bridge spans the inner courtyard over a length of 22 m and connects the two institute components.
In cooperation with the object planner, prefabricated reinforced concrete facades and a 22 m high and 75 m long filigree steel-glass facade were realized.
The roof ceiling of the lecture hall building was designed as a composite girder ceiling with a span of 22 m and spans the large lecture hall without supports. The floors of the auditorium building had to be supported in each case, since no load-bearing structural components could be designed to run continuously due to the different uses. A cavity for ventilation was integrated into the entire surface of the reinforced concrete ceilings of the lecture halls.
The building components in contact with the ground were planned and executed as a so-called white tank in accordance with the WU guidelines. The excavation pit was realized with up to 11 m high, two-layer back-anchored soldier pile shoring. One challenge was the inhomogeneous subsoil.
